A son is sent by his father to earth and raised by a man and woman without children to become a savior of the people. If that sounds vaguely familiar, it should, as it’s the description of both Superman and Jesus Christ. Kal-El, son of krypton is sent to earth by his father Jor-El to earth so that he may be safe from the planet krypton exploding. He is rocketed off into space until he lands on earth and is adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent. He is raised as Clark Kent with little knowledge of his origins until he gets older. He begins to encounter the unexplainable formation of his powers which he later finds out is from earth’s yellow sun, unlike krypton’s red one. Clark decides to use his powers for good and become Superman.

Jesus shares a similar story as his father sends him from heaven to be born through the virgin Mary and raised by her and Joseph. Jesus grows up learning who he really is and what he can do and helps many people before being sentenced to death, becoming the savior of the people much like Superman did. Much like Jesus with his father Joseph, Superman’s adopted father Jonathan also dies later in life. This origin of Superman is carried over through many of his incarnations, such as Superman: The Movie and Man of Steel, and is a necessary part of the character.
